NY Jets: Three Round 2015 NFL Mock Draft

It’s that time of the year, where I put pen to paper so to speak and see how the first three rounds just might play out this spring for NFL teams.   I do three rounds for my pre free agency mock as to do a seven round prior to the compensatory picks being announced is crazy if you ask me.  I do take pending free agents into consideration and make some assumptions on who will be resigned and who may walk.

Round 1:  Marcus Mariota--QB—Oregon
If he had classic drop back experience no way does he last until the sixth pick but he has some learning to do to be able to handle a full NFL playbook.  His present strengths work perfectly with the Jets and the style of QB, new offensive coordinator, Chan Gailey, prefers to run his offense.   Remember Gailey did wonders with Kordell Stewart and Mariota has more skills to offer now then Stewart ever did in his career.   Mariota becomes the next great hope for the franchise but Mariota has the maturity, intangibles and skills to finally cement himself finally as the future of the team.

Round 2: Phillip Dorsett---WR—Miami (Fla)
With the potential of a headache at any moment with Percy Harvin, the Jets will be fortunate to replace him with a player with similar skills without the baggage.  Dorsett has the ability to blow the top off a defense and should help Mariota’s transition into full time starter that much easier.  Dorsett is the exciting speed merchant to team well with Eric Decker and become a solid contributor day one of camp.

Round 3: Xavier Cooper--DT--Washington State
Can play both end and tackle and new HC Todd Bowles realizes that you can never have enough linemen and corners in his system.    Cooper already has degree and is a mature player who will grow into a leader on the team and especially the defense.  With Antonio Cromartie likely signing with New York, the new leadership takes the best available player at a need in Cooper.    Recently cut Darnell Docket might be a mentor to Xavier Cooper.
