I love football. You probably do too, or you wouldn't be reading this. I look towards Sunday's game with quite a bit of excitement, as you would expect. What I did not expect feeling is a bit of apathy. That's right, part of me just doesn't care. "What's in this guy's noodle?" your asking. Stick with me and see if you feel any of this.
On one hand, you have to golden boy of the NFL, Peyton Manning. He's arguably the greatest quarterback ever. The Colts are a pretty clean organization. No one makes any waves, They help old ladies cross the street. Heck, I was born in Terra Haute! If the Colts win, it just ads luster to Peyton's resume. Everyone is happy, no worries. Roger Goodell is tickled that the good guys won.
On the other hand, the Saints. This team has a history of losing and being an underdog. Drew Brees, washed up with a shoulder injury. Reggie Bush is a bust. The city pounded by Katrina. Yet somehow, they laid waste to opponents this year. What a great story. If the Saints win, Roger Goodell is tickled that the god guys won.
????
It's not that there is no one to root for. It's quite the opposite. Two premier Qb's, Great stories all around. What a feel good event. But for me, I have no one to sharpen the knives for. My hatred goes unsated. My hope now is to see a 70-63 track meet in 2OT.
My hope for next year is to have the Cowboys go against the Raiders. Probably the two most loved/hated teams in the league. I guarantee the greatest ratings ever. Barring that, the sideshow will be remarkable.
After you get done laughing, feel free to heap scorn upon me in the comments.
