As anyone who reads this blog they realize I love the great game of football with a passion not matched by many but I still can’t understand the constant attention years later the Cowboys get to passing on Randy Moss.
Folks remember the Titans passed on Moss for Kevin Dyson!! There were how many picks between Dallas and Minnesota? Why doesn’t it hang on every other team that passed on him. Do you think the Eagles would have been better with Moss or William Thomas, how about the Panthers better with Jason Peter or Randy Moss, Seahawks better with Anthony Simmons or Randy Moss, the Lions better with Terry Fair or Randy Moss. Remember too why they passed on Moss, it was because they were getting slaughtered in the media for being an out of control team led by the antics of an out of control wide receiver so the best idea would have been to bring in a player with a similar reputation who was kicked out of Notre Dame and Florida State. No, it wouldn’t have been and had they taken him the media would have continued to criticize the team and ownership.
At that point Dallas needed to clean up their image and adding a guy of Greg Ellis’s character made some serious football sense. It’s amazing how that is so easily forgotten because Randy continues to cry about not being a Cowboy. Plus the fact that Moss has been exactly what everyone thought he’d be a great wide receiver but a team malcontent that has been traded three times and could be playing elsewhere in 2011 (depending on Favre). How many other “great” players have been traded so often during their career? I might be in the minority but as a life- long Cowboys supporter I’m glad Moss never had the honor of wearing a star on his helmet.
