The first few days of Free Agency provided excitement, and some great and bad deals. Here are clearly the best and worst signings this off-season in the NFL.
Good Signings
Cliff Avril (two years, $15 million); Michael Bennett (one year, $5 million), Seattle. Two of the top 5 defensive ends in free agency, and both go to Seattle for low end deals.
Wes Welker (two years, $12 million, fully guaranteed), Denver. I know Welker is getting older and is a slot receiver, but a two year deal and playing with Peyton Manning. Are they ever going to punt? Denver will lead the league in scoring and first downs. Great move to try to win the championship.
Cullen Jenkins (three years, $8 million, $3 million guaranteed), Giants. I just love how the Giants continue to add to the defensive line. Low money for a solid player who will be a rotational player.
Bad Signings
Jared Cook (five years, $38.5 million, $19 million guaranteed), Rams. This guy has eight career touchdowns. Averaging over $ 7million a season. Just not a good signing.
Mike Wallace (five years, $60 million, $27 million guaranteed), Dolphins. I know the Dolphins needed a number one guy, and free agents tend to get overpaid. I'm a little leery about that type of money for a speed guy with questionable hands, and has some injury concerns.
There are still plenty of free agents available, probably will make my good list rather than my bad.
