Ryan Williams and Amobi Okoye join the Dallas Cowboys

Contrary to what some in the media have reported I believe these two recent moves where potentially two of the best transaction made recently by the Dallas Cowboys.    In the same mode of signing Georgie Selvie last year the Cowboys grabbed a former first and second round pick for next to nothing.    Amobi Okoye entered the league as the youngest player ever drafted with the Houston Texans and had the best playing for current defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli.   With the shape of the Cowboys defense last year it would not surprise me at all to see Okoye become part of the defensive line rotation and have a Selvie type year for the Cowboys.

Ryan Williams could be a real boom for the Cowboys as DeMarco Murray enters the final year of his contract and has not proven to be durable but has been special when on the field.   Williams could turn out to be a great insurance policy should DeMarco go down again and might be the motivation to keep Murray on the field.   Fast forward to the end of 2014 and DeMarco Murray goes for 1100 yards and is looking for a big payday while Ryan Williams proves to be healthy and goes for 650 yards.   The Cowboys suddenly have the luxury of giving DeMarco a fair market offer but certainly nothing close to breaking the bank. Remember Ryan Williams was not part of a draft conducted by Bruce Arians and did have injury issue the past two seasons so I certainly can see why the Arizona Cardinals let him walk.   

I am certainly not crazy enough to get too excited for Cowboys Nation for these signings but “potentially” they could both turn into significant contributors and major upgrades to the 2013 roster.   These below the radar signings at times have a way of working out as the teams are giving the player a chance and the player realizes this could be their last chance so suddenly that hunger to keep playing in the NFL starts to burn a lot more than when they were a rookie with a nice salary and job security.
