The Denver Broncos have a new sheriff in
town and he prefers quick, mobile quarterback who is as fleet a foot as they
are able to drive the ball down field. Buffalo, also has a
new head coach, who is far from verse in the offensive side of the ball but their
OC Greg Roman is a man whose resume reflects a man aware of the offensive line,
tight end and running backs. He wants a quarterback who is smart, with a
strong arm and someone who has the arm strength to deliver in the windy city of
Buffalo. Peyton has the resume to make Kubiak sit and wait a year
but Oseweiler suddenly is a square peg in a round circle. A move of
a two year deal with Mark Sanchez and the trade for Brock Oseweiler would
create QB competition and add two QBs that fit the new regime. EJ
sitting behind Peyton for a year then going to a system that will use his full
skill set makes this a likely win win trade for both teams
Contract talks have
broken down between Jeremy Maclin and the Eagles and it appears he will head to
free agency. There has to be a reason Chip drafted so
many wide receivers last year. Chip appears to believe his
system makes the player and not the other way around and I highly doubt he’ll
go above and beyond to bring Maclin back. On the other hand Andy
Reid prefers players he can trust and has a nice long history with Jeremy
Maclin. Maclin signing in Kansas City has all the making of a day
one signing especially with KC is need for a number one wide receiver.
With the looming suspension of Le’ Veon
Bell for the first two games of the season the Steelers need a veteran who can
fill that starting role for the games and then are a powerful number two punch
to their offense. Gore might get more money offers from other teams
but it’s likely anyone can nearly guarantee him a starting job for the first
two weeks of the season. Pittsburgh can and adding a vet like Gore
would also benefit as a mentor and motivation to Bell to stay on the right path.
During Ken Whisenhunt last
season in Arizona he signed Brian Hoyer to the roster with the hope to see what
he had to offer the rest of the season and the following camp. For
Hoyer, unfortunately Whisenhunt never made it to the next season and his time was
short lived in Arizona. Tennessee will look to add a
veteran QB to go with Zach Mettenberger and likely will draft a third to fill
out the roster but Hoyer’s resume has the making of that vet to hold down the
fort, lead the team to an 8-8 type record and keep the seat warm for a
franchise QB.
The Browns need a short term
answer at QB while they sit and wait if Manziel is another bust or if he can
get his act together and succeed in the NFL. McCown has the tools
to be a starter and likely would take the job early in camp but will need some
more tools to have any long term success. Adding McCown and Michael
Crabtree would be a good start in improving the talent on the team and giving
the Browns some players with a track record of success to route for as they
wait on Gordon and Manziel.
6. Jermey Parnell to the Washington
Cowboys
have an enormous amount of free agents and can’t resign everyone. Parnell
is looking for a starting spot and starter money and his old position coach is
now in DC. Like Jason Hatcher and Stephen Bowen before him the appeal of
taking someone from the Cowboys will be again too hard to pass up for the gang
in the nation’s capital. Cowboys likely plan to keep Free,
groom his replacement and let Parnell walk so the Redskins won’t have to outbid
them but may have some competition within the division (NY Giants).
Snyder loves overspending so this is a day one or day two signing in my book.
7. CJ Spiller to the NY Jets
Obvious connection to Jets new offensive coordinator, Chan
Gailey, makes this appear to be a layup for a nice three year deal. With Ryan in place in Buffalo I am not
thinking CJ is any sort of priority to the new regime in Buffalo. Ryan prefers running backs past their prime
or ones that never had it.
8. Mark Ingram to New England Patriots
It is a process of connecting the dots and looking at the
history of Coach Bill Belichick including his life prior to being head man in
New England. The feeling is Belichick
has to be growing leery of the running back of the moment and adding a talent
like Ingram would put the position in good hands with a young man Coach
Belichick has been familiar with long before he played for Bill’s close friend,
Nick Saban. Being the lead back on the
Super Bowl Champs with a coach he’s known his whole life makes signing in New
England easy for Mark Ingram.
9. Jermaine Gresham to Oakland Raiders
New coach Jack Del Rio saw the importance of a good tight
end during his time in Denver to both the passing and running game. Gresham in an under used player in Cincinnati
as 64 receptions is his career best for a season but he will turn 27 before the
start of the season and is entering his prime.
He would prove to be a nice safety valve for upcoming star QB, Derek
Carr.
10. Jake Locker to Philadelphia Eagles
If Chip can’t move up to get Marcus Mariota this move makes
a lot of sense. Mark Sanchez is
leaving, Chip is not 100% sold by any means on Nick Foles and Locker has a lot
more of the tools Chip prefers than any other QB on his current roster. Plus collecting Pac 10 QBs of the past
appears to be a thing Chip enjoys (Nick Foles, Mark Sanchez and Matt Barkley).
11. Christian Ponder to San Francisco 49’ers
An intelligent QB who is a little below 60% accuracy but has
a lot of tools to bring to the table as a solid number two QB for San Francisco
and someone who could very well expedite the learning process of Colin Kaepernick.
12. Dwayne Harris to Seattle Seahawks
A solid potential #3 wide receiver that can provide the versatility
they lost in trading Percy Harvin but none of the drama. Dwayne is buried in Dallas but with some wide
receivers moving on in Seattle, Dwayne would a great addition.
13. Jason Fox to Dallas Cowboys
As the Cowboys juggle the cap they will need someone to
provide depth behind Doug Free since Parnell is not coming back. Fox is a solid, underrated tackle who is from
Texas and certainly would jump to return and play for the Dallas Cowboys. Fox is the type of signing that has helped
Dallas reach success the past season.
14. Stefan Wisniewski to Detroit Lions
Detroit is moving on from Dominic Raiola and looking for a
higher character and younger type player.
They get that in Stefan who comes from a football family and will be an
upgrade to the Lions.
15. Jason Pierre-Paul to Tampa Bay Buccaneers
NY Giants will be revamping their defense and will likely
turn the page on Pierre-Paul as they won’t have the cap space to give him a
contract in the five year seventy three million dollar neighborhood. Tampa Bay on the other hand have the cap
space to bring Pierre-Paul and likely his former college teammate George Selvie
back to Florida.
16. Jerry Hughes to NY Giants
Buffalo changes defensive scheme and Jerry Hughes does not
fit a Rob Ryan’s scheme but would be a welcome addition in New York when with
the return of Steve Spagnuolo pressure will be the name of the game. Hughes will get his chance to do what he does
best and rush the quarterback.
17. Corey Wootton DE to Dallas Cowboys
Dallas likes to address all needs even with second tier
players before the draft so that they have ability to take best player on their
board. Wootton is very familiar with DC
Rod Marinelli from their days together in Chicago and at his size, age and familiarity
with the defense should replace George Selvie in the rotation as the Cowboys
patiently try to build a defensive line similar to what they did on the
offensive line.
18. Bruce Carter to NY Giants
Giants needs to improve their linebacking core and Carter is
too expensive and a little too unpredictable for the Cowboys to keep. In the new scheme Carter could lead the team
in tackles as he is just starting to put it all together. Worth a role of the dice for the Giants as
he immediately is an upgrade for them.
19. Ndamukong Suh to Oakland Raiders
Sometimes players and teams are just meant for each other
like Kobe and the Lakers, Jeter and the Yankees and Suh and the Raiders. He is Lyle Alzado, Ted Hendricks and Otis
Sistrunk rolled into one. Suh plays
like a Raider, looks like a Raider and come next month should become a Raider.
20. Antonio Cromartie to NY Jets
New head
coach, Todd Bowles, loves good corners who understand his system and Cromartie
loved playing for him and loved his time
in NY. This should be a day 1 signing.
